HAL HOLBROOK (O'Dell)
majored in Theatre at Denison University in Ohio, where he developed a characterization of Mark Twain that brought him much critical acclaim.

After arriving in New York, Holbrook was cast on the daytime television soap opera "The Brighter Day." He spent his nights in a Greenwich Village nightclub developing his Mark Twain character and more than two hours of original material. Ed Sullivan saw him and gave his Twain national television exposure.
His one-man show "Mark Twain Tonight!" opened off-Broadway in 1959 to great critical acclaim and eventually made it to Broadway, where he won a Tony Award, a Drama Critic’s Circle Award, and an audience of twenty-two million on CBS television Emmy-nominated special entitled "Mark Twain Tonight." On stage, "Mark Twain Tonight!" has become one of the longest running shows in theatre history, now in its forty-fourth consecutive year.

Holbrook has starred in countless television projects including "Pueblo," which garnered him two Emmys, "Sandburg’s Lincoln" (Emmy Award), "That Certain Summer" (Emmy nomination), "The Senator" (Emmy Award), "Our Town" (two Emmy nominations), and "The Awakening Land" (Emmy nomination).

As host and narrator of "Portrait of America," Holbrook received the prestigious Peabody Award, several Ace Awards, and another Emmy.

Holbrook’s film credits include The Group, Wild In the Street, The Great White Hope, They Only Kill Their Masters, Magnum Force, The Girl From Petrovka, Midway, All the President’s Men, Rituals, Julia, Capricorn One, The Fog, Star Chamber, Creepshow, Wall Street, Fletch, Saved, The Firm, Carried Away, Hush, Eye of God, Judas Kiss, The Florentine, and Waking the Dead.

Holbrook has starred in countless stage productions on and off-Broadway and in regional theatres, portraying everyone from King Lear to Abe Lincoln to Willie Loman.
